Popcorn Skies

Thick and pronounced altocumulus clouds blanketed the evening skies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday, July 30, 2020. The altocumulus formations, resembling popcorn in this case, are often harbingers of precipitation or thunderstorms. None occurred here, however, as very dry summer conditions continued to persist.
