Super Moon, Holy Week Moon, Pink Moon
Wednesday, April 8, 2020
A full supermoon sets behind the roof of Noelridge Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 6:06 am CDT, Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
This full moon is also known as a "Pink Moon," named after the early springtime blooming of Phlox subulata, a pink wildflower native to eastern North America. "Supermoon" refers to a full moon in perigee (closest in its orbit) to Earth. Easter is determined by the first full moon after the spring equinox. In the image above, the supermoon sets in the west looking toward the town of Hiawatha along 74th Street NE at Pin Tail Drive NE in Cedar Rapids. Image is a 1/30-second exposure at f/9, ISO 500, 190mm focal length. 6:28 am, April 7.
The supermoon reached its maximum "fullness" at 9:36 pm on April 7 (above). This is a 1/250-second exposure at f/8, ISO 200, 300mm focal length. The skies cleared after an earlier severe weather event had moved out of the area, allowing this view. Nikon D7200 DSLR camera.
