Sparked My Interest
Tuesday, July 1, 2014
A severe thunderstorm, packed with frequent lightning, provided a great opportunity to "stack" multiple lightning strike exposures into single images. Each exposure, taken on the evening of Sunday, June 29, 2014, was about 10 seconds long, shot at f/10, 200 ISO and 18mm focal length. The top image was created from five separate exposures. It looks SW over the Colton Square condominiums as seen from the parking lot at Noelridge Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Total exposure time was from 9:25-9:27 PM CDT. The middle and bottom images are six and two exposure stacks, respectively. They were photographed from 9:49 PM-9:54 PM and look east from the grounds at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Marion, Iowa.
