Wet Dry Creek

Monday, September 21, 2026

Dry Creek, in these series of images from Boyson Park near the border of Marion and Cedar Rapids, Iowa overflowed its banks on the morning of September 20, 2026, due to accumulative rainfall here and from the north during the time span of September 13-20. My home weather station, located about a quarter mile away, recorded a total of 6.72 inches of measurable rainfall from the 8 consecutive days of precipitation. The image above looks southeast and was captured at 1:53 pm CDT on September 20 from the sidewalk near Boyson Road leading to one of the two trail accesses from Boyson Park.

1:54 pm. Foot bridge over Dry Creek looking south, with its wooden planks not quite awash from the rushing stream (moving right-to-left). Pooling water in the foreground was about 3-4 inches deep.

1:54 pm. Closer view.

1:54 pm. View from the footbridge looking west. Despite the high and hard flowing water, the bridge felt solid.

1:54 pm. Another view from the footbridge, this one looking southeast. Note the depth of the water from the inundated trees.

1:54 pm. View from the footbridge looking south in the direction of the trail. Normal creek flow is toward the left.

1:56 pm. Looking southeast from the second Boyson Park trail access (to Thomas Park) connecting from the sidewalk along Boyson Road. Boyson Park's parking lot is at far left.

1:56 pm. Similar view. Normal creek flow is toward the right.

1:57 pm. Looking southwest. Wide scope of flooding.

1:58 pm. Looking southwest from near the Boyson Road sidewalk. The footbridge can be seen between trees at right. Nikon Z6ii camera.
