August 2 Morning Storm Action

Storms began rolling through the southern part of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area after 4:00 am on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, tracking in a southeasterly direction. By 5:30 am the system reached neighboring Cedar County and had again gone severe-warned (it was previously severe-warned just west of Linn County in Benton County from 4:00-4:35 am). The storm featured "spider" CC lightning at its lower base, as well as CG lightning and prominent mammatus clouds, reflecting beautifully in the gathering light of the rising sun.
