Florida Sunsets

Posted previously were Florida sunrises. Not to be outdone by those spectacular views, here are two sunsets--equally striking--on the Gulf of Mexico side. Above, brilliant pastel-like cumulus clouds reflect calm waters over Lake Tarpon, southeast of Tarpon Springs. Image looks north at 6:15 pm EST, February 20, 2018. Sunset was 6:25 pm. The 2,500-acre freshwater lake is home to a wide variety of marine life--including alligators.

Gorgeous Jacksonville Sunrise

New day and no fog on the Jacksonville, Florida beach this time! Above, with sunrise 24 minutes away, a rosy sky at the pier promised an exceptional viewing experience. This image, an exposure of 2.5 seconds at f/25, 800 ISO and 48mm focal length, was captured at 6:37 am EST, Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

Sunrise, six minutes old, at 7:07 am.

7:10 am. Low passing clouds provided a nice reflective background.

Foggy Monday at the Beach

Florida is the sunshine state. But not so on Monday morning, February 19, 2018 at or near the Jacksonville beach pier. An unseasonably warm upper layer of air overlaid a cooler surface and produced fog. Above, surf splashes against the piles of the pier at 7:25 am EST.

We waited to enjoy a brilliant beach sunrise experience that never materialized. Instead, a feeble sun attempted--and failed--to shine much through the thick fog, seen here at 8:00 am (above and below). But a better morning was yet to come the next day...
